Frankie and the Witch Fingers have marked their triumphant return with âBoneheadâ & "i-Candy," their first new offering since last yearâs landmark LP Data Doom.
'Boneheadâ is a primitive, buzzy thumper, raw and stripped down,â the band says. âIn a world where itâs easy to add more, we had a blast cooking out the junk and keeping it potent and pure. We wanted to capture the chaotic energy of those unfiltered live moments. Recorded the basics in one take, warts and all. Thrashing around with a crowd of free spirits reminds us we can push back against the parasitic noise trying to keep us controlledâthis is a little slice of that in recorded form"
After the release of the brutally raw âBonehead,â Frankie and the Witch Fingers continue to preview their new music by sharing the double AA side single, âi-Candy,â which premiered October 8th on KEXP's Midday Show. "i-Candy" kicks off with a synth- induced groove that turns into full-on relentless riffs, soundtracking an objectified robotâs vengeance.
âBleeps and bloops tightly wound around a precise dystopian punk nodder, these were the magic digits we needed to punch in to bring âi-Candyâ to life,â the band explains. âThis was one of the first songs to emerge from the incubator of recent demos. âi-Candyâ is a female sex robot, she isnât programmed for any manâs need; sheâs out to clean up the streets and settle the score in blood.â
âi-Candyâ and âBoneheadâ are just the first taste of the bandâs upcoming new work. âBoneheadâ was named Consequences Heavy Song of the Week, with Jon Hadusek saying, âThe Cramps-y riffs are sped up and played with grit, and the vocals waver naturally around the melody as if theyâre sung by someone backed by the loose energy of a raucous rock nâ roll band.â Look out for more news on upcoming music, and catch the band live at their headline tour dates and festivals this fall.
