Iguana Death Cult - I Like It 7"

Rotterdam’s Iguana Death Cult has never been easy to pin down—and they’ve never wanted to be. Since erupting out of the Dutch underground in 2014, the band has turned garage rock inside out, fusing punk urgency with psych weirdness, post-punk groove, and a restless sense of exploration. Over three acclaimed records (The First Stirrings of Hideous Insect Life, Nude Casino, Echo Palace) and countless sweat-drenched shows, they’ve carved out a sound that’s as unpredictable as it is undeniable.

But in 2024, the band faced its most dramatic shift yet. Founding members Arjen van Opstal (drums) and Justin Boer (bass) stepped away—an emotional blow that briefly knocked the band off course. What followed was a period of depression, reflection, and ultimately, a creative wildfire. Holed up and writing in a manic haze, core members Jeroen Reek, Tobias Opschoor, and Jimmy de Kok found themselves returning to the raw energy that started it all—only now with sharper vision and broader ambition.

To capture this new chapter, they drove to Berlin and finished the record with drummer Uri Rennert (Brian Jonestown Massacre, Häxxan, Balagan), who officially joined as the new drummer. The result is their boldest work yet: a return to their explosive roots, injected with a bigger, more synth-driven sound that trades fuzz for focus without losing an ounce of fire.

2024 also saw Iguana Death Cult storm across the U.S., touring alongside OSEES and Wine Lips, and making a serious impression with a ferocious performance at Levitation in Austin, where fans and first-timers alike walked away stunned. This July, they return for another run—this time hitting the West Coast with longtime friends and collaborators Frankie and the Witch Fingers.

Their upcoming single, “I Like It, It’s Nice,” drops August 2nd via Greenway Records on 7” vinyl, with a mind-bending remix by Frankie and the Witch Fingers on the B-side. It's the first taste of a new era: more intense, more acidic, and more unhinged.

Iguana Death Cult in 2025 is a band reborn—burned down and rebuilt with the same reckless spirit, but new tools, new blood, and a global audience that keeps growing louder.
